And if we want to we can snap this to our axis by hitting our arrow keys. But I"m going to keep this on the blue axis which is the default. So how this tool works is essentially you set the center of the arc by left clicking. You drag out the length of the arc. You left click again. And then you sweep out the arc along an angle and left click one more time. And now you have an arc. If you want to you could take your line tool, close this off and you would have a shape. Or you can delete it. So let"s take a look at this a little bit more closely. So I"m going to go ahead and reselect my arc tool. Now when I select my arc tool, one of the things it will do is tell me the number of sides that this arc will be. Now remember, when we have a curve in SketchUp it actually resolves two straight line segments. And this number of sides is actually how many segments you"re going to have. Right now this is set at eight. If I wanted to I could type a larger number such as 12 and hit enter. So now my arc will have 12 sides. Now again I"m going to go ahead and lay down my first point. Then if I want I could basically stretch out my length of my arc. If I wanted to I could type in a number here. And then as I sweep it out again I can type a number. Now one of the things you"ll notice is that as I go all the way around you can start to see the sides. In fact I"m going to make this a 300 degree arc. And when I do you can see very clearly the 12 sides that I created. So if you"re going to have a large arc like this you may want even more than 12 sides. So now that we understand this, let"s go ahead and move on to the other arcs. So we have a two point arc. And one of the things you can notice here is that the icon itself tells you how the arc will be drawn. So we"re going to do a two point arc. And how we do this is we basically left click and drag and we"re dragging out the base of that arc. And then when we click the second time, we can create what"s called the bulge. So this can be either really big or really small. So we can even go deep or shallow. Now once we have this. Again we have an arc. And we can certainly close that up if we want. Now if we draw this again let"s take a look at some of the values that we could type in. So when I select this arc, again it"s telling me the number of sides. I can change that if I want. I can change the length of this base. So if I wanted to I could type in say 12 feet. And then I can create a specific height for the bulge. Let"s say I wanted that to be six feet. And again I have a very precise arc. Let"s go one more down the list to the three point arc. And I find this actually kind of draws a little bit like a Pac-Man. So what you do is you left click and drag out the opening and then as you can see, we"re getting an angle that goes this way or this way. And this is why I think it looks a little bit like a Pac-Man. And so if we want to we could again draw that in, get the the shape. And let"s take a look at the values that we have. And of course the first value is the number of sides. Second one is the length of that base. And the third is the angle. Now finally, we have the pie tool. Now this actually creates a shape with a face, and it"s almost identical to the arc tool except it does create a shape. So just like the arc tool, we"re going to start with placing the center of this. We"re going to drag out a length. And then we"re going to sweep an arc. Now the great thing about the pie tool is that it fills in the details for you. So it basically draws lines from the center out to the arc so that way we actually have the face right there when we finish the tool. So as you can see we can draw curve shapes using either the freehand tool or a number of different arc tools. And remember curve lines in SketchUp are comprised of multiple straight line segments.
